Sri Lanka Rupee Strengthens, Stocks Rise: Market Update

Sri Lanka’s rupee opened stronger at 304.80/305.20 against the US dollar on Monday, with bond yields remaining steady and stocks opening 0.36 percent higher, according to dealers.

On Friday, the rupee closed at 306.00/20 per greenback.

In the equity market, Colombo’s All Share Price Index opened 42.93 points higher at 12,119, while the S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks opened up 0.27 percent or 9.71 points at 3,575.

The market turnover was reported at 71 million rupees.

In the secondary market, bond yields saw a decrease. The details are as follows:

  • A bond maturing on 15.12.2026 was quoted at 10.85/95 percent, up from 10.85/11.00 percent.
  • A bond maturing on 15.02.2028 remained stable at 11.90/12.00 percent.
  • A bond maturing on 15.09.2029 was quoted at 12.15/20 percent, down from 12.10/20 percent.
