USDA Under Secretary Taylor Tours New Anthoney’s Farms

Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Alexis Taylor, recently paid a visit to New Anthoney’s Farms in Hanwella, highlighting the poultry producer’s commitment to sustainable practices and its growing ties with the U.S. This visit is significant as it allowed New Anthoney’s to showcase its facility, which prioritizes sustainable processes across its production.

During the visit, Under Secretary Taylor discussed and strengthened USDA’s support for Sri Lanka’s agriculture sector. The management of New Anthoney’s also engaged in discussions on how their partnership can contribute to enhancing food security in the country. New Anthoney’s stands out as the first company globally to adopt the ‘Fed with Sustainable U.S. Soy’ label by the U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC), showcasing its holistic commitment to sourcing sustainable ingredients from the U.S.

New Anthoney’s has consistently followed scientific and certified animal welfare criteria in its farming and production processes, as set forth by the National Chicken Council (NCC) in the U.S. Recently, the company obtained the internationally recognized FSSC 22000 certification. Known for its environmentally-friendly practices, New Anthoney’s is renowned for its ‘green’ label and is the only producer in Sri Lanka using biodegradable packaging. It has also received the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Verification Statement from Control Union, aligning with ISO 14064-1:2018 standards.

Looking ahead, New Anthoney’s aims to expand its end-to-end poultry value chain, enhance its retail presence, grow export markets, and diversify its processed food portfolio, all while prioritizing sustainability to deliver nutritious, safe, and fresh chicken to its loyal consumers.
