The Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka (AAT) recently hosted its 2024 Conference at Waters Edge, Battaramulla, under the theme “Rise to Conquer: Resilient | Innovate | Synergize | Empower.” The event attracted notable figures from the accounting and business sectors, focusing on AAT’s pivotal role and fostering discussions on the future of accounting.
In his keynote address, Chief Guest Pradeep Saputhanthri, Secretary to the Prime Minister, emphasized AAT’s importance in providing job-oriented qualifications to those unable to pursue university education, thereby contributing to a skilled workforce. He expressed alignment with AAT’s mission, highlighting its significance as a not-for-profit educational body in enhancing Sri Lanka’s education system for a prosperous future.
Dr. Kishu Gomes, Group Managing Director/CEO of Dreamron Group of Companies and Chairman of Exterminator PLC, spoke on the conference theme, stating, “‘Rise to Conquer’ is a powerful title. To rise, we must first conquer our challenges. It’s crucial to cultivate knowledge that is commercially relevant and to expand expertise beyond core competencies. In a value-driven organization, understanding various functions is vital for maximizing impact.”
AAT Sri Lanka President Indraka Liyanage remarked that the theme serves as a call to action for professionals to navigate challenges, seize opportunities, and lead organizations toward a brighter future. He noted the rapid evolution of the accounting profession amidst technological advancements and economic shifts.
AAT Sri Lanka has been instrumental in bridging the gap between academic qualifications and the professional skills demanded by today’s market. With widely recognized qualifications, AAT provides a solid foundation for aspiring accountants, many of whom secure influential roles in finance, audit firms, and large corporations, thereby contributing to Sri Lanka’s financial ecosystem.
The conference featured four sessions led by industry leaders, including Dr. Lasantha Malavige, Founder and CEO of Lassana Flora; Shohan Kulasuriya, Founder of Pink Drivers; Sherin Carder, CFO and Executive Vice President at John Keells Holdings PLC; and Jiffry Zulfer, Founder and CEO of PickMe.
