ADB Reiterates Firm Commitment to Aid Sri Lanka

Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Asia, Robert Kaproth, emphasized the critical importance of sustaining Sri Lanka’s ongoing economic reforms to avert potential future crises. This statement came during a bilateral engagement with State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe in Tbilisi, held alongside the ADB 57th Annual Meetings in Georgia. Discussions centered on the progress of debt restructuring, with Kaproth assuring maximum support from the United States towards Sri Lanka and stressing the necessity of continuing the reform agenda.

In another key meeting, State Minister Semasinghe engaged with the Vice-President (South, Central, and West Asia) of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The focus was on the new Country Partnership Strategy for 2024–2028 outlined by the ADB, with an emphasis on the imperative need to persist with reforms to uphold macroeconomic stability. Yingming Yang of ADB reiterated the institution’s strong commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s reform efforts, highlighting the significance of ongoing economic initiatives in maintaining stability and fostering growth.
