A top official from China-based BYD Auto Industry Co. Ltd has expressed that the company is open to discussions about setting up an assembly plant in Sri Lanka, contingent on future market demand. “As of now, we don’t have such a plan, but of course, based on market demand, we are open to discuss this,” stated Liu Xueliang, General Manager of BYD Auto’s Sales Division for the Asia-Pacific region.
Liu highlighted that Sri Lanka is poised to play a significant role in the company’s global push towards electric vehicles (EVs). Beyond introducing advanced product technologies, BYD is also committed to collaborating with local partners to provide training and education for the younger generation in Sri Lanka. The company aims to introduce more high-tech products to support the country’s economic growth.
Founded in 1995 as a rechargeable battery manufacturer, BYD has grown into a multinational high-tech company with diverse interests in automobiles, rail transit, new energy, and electronics. The company operates over 30 industrial parks globally, including locations in China, the United States, Canada, Japan, Brazil, Hungary, and India.
