Cabinet Approves Sri Lanka-Thailand Free Trade Agreement

The Cabinet of Ministers has ratified the Sri Lanka-Thailand Free Trade Agreement (FTA), marking a significant milestone in the bilateral relations between the two nations. The agreement, signed on 3 February 2024 by the Sri Lankan Trade, Commerce, and Food Security Minister and the Thai Commerce Minister, was presented to Parliament on 12 July 2024.

According to Cabinet Co-Spokesman Minister Bandula Gunawardena, the FTA will take effect 30 days after the final notification is exchanged between the two countries, confirming the completion of all internal legal procedures. This agreement is expected to boost trade, enhance economic cooperation, and create new opportunities for both Sri Lanka and Thailand.

The ratification proposal, submitted by President Ranil Wickremesinghe in his capacity as Finance, Economic Stabilization, and National Policies Minister, received approval from the Cabinet of Ministers.
