Chinese Garment Delegation Ventures into Sri Lanka, Seeks Business Prospects

A delegation of 30 members from the China National Garment Association (CNGA), led by Executive Vice President Xie Qing and Vice President/Secretary General of the Ningbo Garment Association, Mao Yihua, visited Sri Lanka on May 9, 2024. With over 1,400 major members, the CNGA represents leading apparel brands in China and aimed to enhance trade relations and explore collaboration opportunities within the Sri Lankan apparel industry.

During their visit, the delegation participated in a series of engagements, including business-to-business meetings, factory visits, and dialogues with governmental institutions. A key highlight was a business session at the EDB premises, where the delegation interacted directly with 12 prominent Sri Lankan apparel companies. Dr. Kingsley Bernard, Chief of the EDB, emphasized the significance of such exchanges in bolstering bilateral ties and promoting economic growth.

The visit also included meetings with key figures and institutions in Sri Lanka’s economic sector, underscoring both sides’ commitment to deepening cooperation and identifying new avenues for collaboration. The delegation’s presence reaffirmed the growing interest of Chinese investors in Sri Lanka’s vibrant apparel industry, highlighting the potential for mutually beneficial partnerships and investments.
