On May 15, 2024, Hambantota International Port welcomed two distinguished cruise ships to its docks. The MV Silver Cloud, owned by Silversea Cruises, a luxury brand of the Royal Caribbean Group, arrived from Cochin with 232 passengers, while TUI’s Mein Shiff5, arriving from Langkawi, brought 2,434 passengers.
Among the passengers of Mein Shiff5, a group opted for a unique experience, embarking on an e-bike tour to explore the sights of Hambantota. This eco-friendly excursion was organized in alignment with HIP’s green port initiative, showcasing a commitment to sustainable tourism practices.
The arrival of these cruise ships not only brings visitors to Hambantota but also underscores the port’s growing reputation as a preferred destination for international cruise liners. As passengers disembarked to explore the city and its surroundings, they contributed to the local economy and cultural exchange, further enriching the maritime experience.
