Expanding Horizons: SriLankan Airlines and Korean Air Forge New Codeshare Partnership

Sri Lanka and South Korea are set to enjoy a significant boost in travel connectivity thanks to a new codeshare partnership launched by SriLankan Airlines and Korean Air on March 15, 2024. This collaboration marks a major step forward, offering passengers a wider range of travel options and improved convenience.

Highlighting the importance of this agreement, SriLankan Airlines CEO Richard Nuttall expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership’s potential to strengthen the connection between Colombo and Seoul. He emphasized the growing passenger demand on this route and how the codeshare will allow SriLankan Airlines to expand its presence in a cost-effective manner while providing more reasons for customers to choose their airline.

The partnership offers a win-win situation for both airlines and their passengers. SriLankan Airlines will codeshare on Korean Air’s flights between Singapore and Seoul Incheon. This allows passengers to seamlessly travel on a single SriLankan Airlines ticket from Colombo to Incheon with a convenient stopover in Singapore. Conversely, Korean Air will codeshare on SriLankan Airlines flights connecting Colombo with Seoul Incheon, Singapore, Chennai (India), and Male (Maldives).

This collaboration significantly enhances travel options for SriLankan Airlines passengers. They will now have the flexibility of daily flights between Colombo and Seoul via Singapore, thanks to Korean Air’s extensive Far Eastern network. Conversely, Korean Air passengers will gain access to SriLankan Airlines’ robust network within the Indian Subcontinent. SriLankan Airlines offers extensive coverage across India and the Maldives, operating nearly 100 flights a week to nine Indian cities and 23 flights a week to the Maldives. This includes high-frequency routes with triple daily flights between Colombo and both Chennai and Male.

The codeshare flights can be booked through the online reservation systems and sales offices of both airlines, as well as through external online and offline travel agencies. Passengers can take advantage of the increased flight options and enjoy the convenience of a single ticket for multi-sector journeys, including seamless check-in and baggage transfer.

The SriLankan Airlines and Korean Air codeshare partnership signifies a pivotal moment in strengthening travel connectivity between Sri Lanka and South Korea. With a wider variety of flight choices, streamlined connections, and a stronger market presence, both airlines are well-positioned to elevate the travel experience for passengers while fostering closer ties between the two nations.
