Sri Lanka’s FitsAir, a budget-friendly airline, is expanding its reach with the launch of direct flights between Colombo and Dhaka, Bangladesh. This new route, starting April 16, 2024, signifies a major development in regional aviation, catering to the growing demand for affordable travel options between the two countries.
The decision to establish this connection stems from Bangladesh’s booming economy, which has piqued the interest of Sri Lankan businesses. Recognizing Dhaka’s growing popularity as a business destination, FitsAir aims to bridge the gap by offering efficient and cost-effective air travel.
“The Bangladeshi economy is experiencing phenomenal growth,” remarked FitsAir’s Executive Director, Ammar Kassim. “We’re thrilled to provide competitive fares for both business travelers and tourists alike. We believe our non-stop service to Dhaka will act as a catalyst for bilateral trade and economic development.”
Initially, flights will operate twice a week with the possibility of increased frequency during peak season, subject to government approval. FitsAir has strategically designed its schedule to allow for seamless connections from Dhaka to Male, Chennai, and Dubai. Corporate travelers can also expect exclusive benefits tailored to their needs.
This new route joins FitsAir’s existing network of direct flights from Colombo to Dubai, Male, and Chennai. Notably, FitsAir commenced operations in 1997 in the air cargo sector and has since evolved into Sri Lanka’s first private airline offering scheduled international passenger services.
