Gold Prices Hold Steady with Minor Dip: May 14–16 Snapshot

Gold prices in Sri Lanka remained largely stable between May 14 and May 16, 2025, with only a slight dip recorded in 22-carat rates on the final day of the period.

According to market data, 24-carat gold was priced consistently at Rs. 34,010 per gram across all three days. Meanwhile, 22-carat gold maintained a price of Rs. 31,350 per gram on May 14 and 15, before edging down slightly to Rs. 31,180 on May 16. The corresponding 8-gram pawn gold price fell from Rs. 250,750 to Rs. 249,450.

The price stability follows a volatile start to the month, when international gold markets reacted to shifting global interest rates and currency fluctuations. Analysts suggest the recent steadiness could reflect cautious investor sentiment ahead of key monetary policy decisions in major economies.

Sri Lanka’s gold market closely tracks international prices, with local rates influenced by both global spot prices and the performance of the Sri Lankan rupee.
