Government Greenlights 484 MW Wind Power Project with Adani Green Energy

The government has given its approval for the development of 484 Megawatt wind power stations in Mannar and Pooneryn, marking a significant step towards renewable energy expansion. This decision follows a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with Adani Green Energy Limited of India, signaling a collaborative effort in sustainable power generation. To facilitate the project, a negotiation committee has been appointed by the Cabinet to assess the proposal submitted by the company and provide recommendations.

Subsequently, the Cabinet approved the resolution put forth by the Minister of Power and Energy, endorsing the final price of USD 8.26 per kilowatt for the electricity generated under the proposed wind power project. This approval is contingent upon payment in Sri Lankan Rupees based on the prevailing foreign exchange rate. The tender for the wind power project will be awarded to Adani Green Energy SL Limited for a duration of 20 years, underscoring the government’s commitment to promoting renewable energy sources and reducing dependency on conventional power sources.
