Litro Gas Unveils Cutting-Edge Mabima Storage and Bottling Facility with Rs. 1 Billion Investment

Litro Gas marked a significant milestone with the ceremonial commissioning of its revamped storage and bottling facility at Mabima, Sapugaskanda. The event, graced by Chief of Staff and National Security Advisor Sagala Rathnayaka, showcased Litro Gas’s commitment to operational excellence and national energy security. The refurbished Mabima facility, originally established in 1984, has undergone a comprehensive upgrade to meet international standards, bolstering efficiency and safety.

The refurbishment, costing over Rs. 1 billion, ensures uninterrupted bottling and distribution efficiency for the next decade or more. This investment not only strengthens Litro Gas’s operational capacity but also reduces reliance on the Kerawalapitiya plant, commissioned in 2014. Muditha Pieris, Litro Gas’s Chairman/CEO, emphasized the importance of maintaining a seamless supply chain, particularly as LPG usage has surged, with over two million households transitioning to LPG during his tenure from 2015 to 2019.

The project, initiated in 2016 and financially secured by 2018, faced delays due to the political landscape but ultimately culminated in a state-of-the-art facility. Litro Gas’s dedication to national welfare was highlighted by its swift distribution of 2.2 million gas cylinders during economic challenges in 2022, showcasing resilience and commitment to uninterrupted supply. The commissioning of the Mabima facility underscores Litro Gas’s dedication to efficiency, safety, and meeting the growing demand for LPG in the country.

Mabima’s upgraded facility, in tandem with Kerawalapitiya, not only ensures a reliable LPG supply chain but also contributes to job creation and export income. LPG plays a crucial role in powering diverse sectors from micro-entrepreneurs to large industries, making this commissioning a vital step in supporting economic activities nationwide. Litro Gas’s investment in modernizing infrastructure reflects its long-term vision for operational excellence and serving the nation’s energy needs effectively.
