The President’s Fund is introducing two new scholarship programmes tailored for students specializing in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at the G.C.E. Advanced Level, in line with President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s directives. These scholarships are also extended to monks, nuns, and lay students enrolled in Piriven and Seelamatha Educational Institutions. A total of 822 institutions will benefit from these initiatives, with each institution set to receive six scholarships. The selection process for scholarship recipients will be overseen by the respective Parivenadhipathi Thero or Institution Director.
Scholarships will be offered in two categories, with an allocation of 5,000 scholarships earmarked for lay scholars. Under the first category, recipients will receive Rs. 3,000 per month for a duration of 12 months, commencing from May 2024. Meanwhile, the second category will provide scholarships of Rs. 6,000 per month for a period of 24 months. Interested candidates are encouraged to access application forms and detailed instructions on the official website of the President’s Fund and its Facebook page, with publication in the Government Gazette scheduled for May 10, 2024.
Prospective applicants must submit completed application forms to the Parivenadhipathi or Head of Institute by May 22, 2024. The selected candidates’ names, chosen by the Parivenadhipathi or Head of Institution, will then be forwarded to the Ministry of Education’s Director of Piriwen via the Regional Assistant Director of Education. This scholarship programme, initiated under the President’s guidance and with the support of the President’s Fund, aims to utilize funds provided by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka, emphasizing the importance of fostering ICT education among Advanced Level students.
