Recovery of Loans by Banks Bill to be Debated in Parliament on May 7

According to a communique issued by Director Administration / Director Communication (Acting) of Parliament, Janakantha Silva, the Parliamentary debate on the Recovery of Loans by Banks (Special Provisions) (Amendment) Bill (Second Reading), which includes provisions for the suspension of Parate Law until December 15, is set to take place on May 7. Secretary General of Parliament Kushani Rohanadeera further confirmed that Parliament is scheduled to convene from May 7 to May 10, with Parliamentary business for the week having been decided during a Committee on Parliamentary Business meeting chaired by Deputy Speaker Ajith Rajapaksa on April 26.

The Parliamentary session on May 7 will commence at 9:30 a.m., with debates focusing on Orders published in the Special Gazette No. 2348/48 under the Diplomatic Privileges Act and the Orders published in the Special Gazette No. 2340/02 under the Petroleum Products (Special Provisions) Act. Additionally, the Shop and Office Employees (Regulation of Employment and Remuneration) (Amendment) Bill (Second Reading) is scheduled for debate on May 9. These legislative discussions underscore Parliament’s commitment to addressing key issues and enacting relevant legislation to serve the interests of the nation.
