Resus Energy Powers Ahead with Rs. 1 Billion Green Bond Offering

As it commissions a new solar plant, Resus Energy taps capital markets to fund sustainable growth through innovative green bond issuance.

Resus Energy PLC, a leading player in Sri Lanka’s renewable energy sector, has announced plans to raise Rs. 1 billion through a public issuance of Green Bonds, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable development and clean energy expansion.

The company will offer up to 10 million listed, rated, unsecured, senior, redeemable Green Bonds at a face value of Rs. 100 each. The issuance consists of two bond types: Type A, which has a four-year tenor with an annual coupon rate of 11.55% (Annual Effective Rate – AER: 11.55%), and Type B, which carries a five-year tenor offering an annual coupon rate of 11.75% (AER: 11.75%).

Though the official opening date for subscription is set for 25 June, investors can subscribe to the Green Bonds in advance, highlighting strong market interest in environmentally focused financial instruments.

This capital-raising effort comes on the heels of a major milestone for Resus Energy—the successful connection of a 5.0 MW ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant to Sri Lanka’s national grid. Built at a cost exceeding Rs. 750 million, the facility is equipped with tier-1 solar PV panels and advanced auxiliary systems, positioning it among the country’s most modern solar energy assets.

The plant is expected to generate approximately 10 million kilowatt-hours (10 GWh) of clean electricity annually, contributing significantly to Sri Lanka’s renewable energy goals and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

By leveraging Green Bonds, Resus Energy is not only mobilizing funds for sustainable energy infrastructure but also signaling to investors its long-term vision rooted in innovation, environmental responsibility, and financial transparency. As demand for renewable energy rises and the global push for sustainability intensifies, Resus Energy’s dual move—expanding its solar portfolio and pioneering green finance—is a timely and strategic leap forward.
