According to the latest Sri Lankan business community survey conducted by the London-based Research Intelligence Unit (RIUNIT), there is cautious optimism within the business sector regarding the potential role of India and China in offsetting the global decline in foreign direct investment (FDI). This sentiment aligns with forecasts from international development agencies, which anticipate Asia, particularly South Asia, to drive economic growth in the foreseeable future.
Regarding the upcoming elections, the survey revealed a notable level of uncertainty among respondents. This uncertainty pervaded the entire survey, with many participants unable to articulate clear views due to prevailing geopolitical circumstances and domestic uncertainties.
The survey aimed to capture the business community’s expectations regarding future economic growth and broader concerns within the country, including geopolitical considerations. Notably, over 82% of respondents expressed concerns about the ongoing military actions by Israel in the Palestinian territories, viewing them as potential genocidal crimes.
The Research Intelligence Unit (RIUNIT), functioning as a consulting think tank and research entity with over two decades of presence in Sri Lanka, conducted the survey. For further information, interested parties can contact RIUNIT at info@riunit.com.
