Rupee Strengthens to 302.20/35 to USD; Bond Yields Stable

On Tuesday, the Sri Lankan rupee opened stronger at 302.20/35 against the US dollar, according to dealers. This is an improvement from Monday’s closing rate of 302.63/73. Bond yields remained broadly stable, while stocks experienced a slight decline.

In the secondary bond market, treasury bond yields were steady. A bond maturing on December 15, 2026, was quoted at 10.45/55 percent, showing no change. A bond maturing on December 15, 2027, was quoted at 11.75/90 percent, down from 11.80/12.00 percent. Conversely, a bond maturing on February 15, 2028, saw a slight increase, quoted at 11.95/12.00 percent, up from 11.85/12.00 percent. A bond maturing on September 15, 2029, was quoted at 12.15/30 percent, slightly higher than the previous rate of 12.15/25 percent.

In the equity market, Colombo’s All Share Price Index opened 29.48 points lower at 11,589, while the S&P SL20, which tracks more liquid stocks, fell by 0.42 percent or 14.28 points to 3,354. Market turnover was recorded at 7 million rupees.
