Sri Lanka Restores $50 Double Entry Visa and $20 South Asia E-Visa System

Sri Lanka has reinstated its $50 double-entry visa for most international visitors and a $20 double-entry visa for South Asian travelers, following a court order to restore the previous e-visa system. The earlier visa fees had been increased under a deal with VFS Global and IVS-GBS, leading to a $75 single-entry visa charge along with additional fees.

The restored double-entry visa allows travelers to visit Sri Lanka twice within a six-month period, making it an ideal hub for exploring other regions. However, unlike other countries that capitalize on similar geographical advantages, Sri Lanka’s travel agents have not heavily marketed this opportunity.

The system was reintroduced by newly appointed Minister Vijitha Herath, following a court ruling that found the previous VFS Global agreement was awarded without proper tender. A forensic audit of the deal is underway, with potential legal action to follow.
