Sri Lanka Rupee Opens Stronger; Stocks Edge Up, Bond Yields Fall

Sri Lanka’s rupee opened stronger at 305.95/306.25 against the US dollar on Monday, with bond yields down and stocks rising by 0.07%, according to dealers.

On Friday, the rupee had closed at 306.00/20 against the greenback.

In the equities market, Colombo’s All Share Price Index started 7.90 points higher at 12,152, while the S&P SL20, comprising more liquid stocks, opened up by 0.17% or 6.25 points at 3,594. Market turnover was 10 million rupees.

In the secondary bond market, yields decreased, dealers reported. A bond maturing on 15.12.2026 was quoted at 10.90/11.00%, down from 10.95/11.15%. A bond maturing on 15.02.2028 was quoted at 11.85/12.00%, up from 11.90/98%. A bond maturing on 15.09.2029 was quoted at 11.85/12.00%, down from 12.20/30%.
