Sri Lanka Rupee Strengthens to 291.05/20 Against US Dollar; Bond Yields Rise

Sri Lanka’s rupee opened stronger at 291.05/20 against the US dollar on Tuesday, improving from the previous day’s rate of 291.35/45. Meanwhile, bond yields saw an uptick across various maturities.

  • A bond maturing on 15.12.2026 was quoted at 10.30/40 percent, up from 10.25/35 percent.
  • A bond maturing on 15.12.2027 saw an increase to 10.85/11.00 percent from 10.75/90 percent.
  • A bond maturing on 15.02.2028 was quoted at 11.10/20 percent.

In the stock market, the All Share Price Index opened higher but dropped 0.74 percent, or 98.20 points, to close at 13,132. The S&P SL20 also opened positively before declining by 1.14 percent, or 45.30 points, to 3,934.

Turnover in the market was recorded at Rs. 733 million, reflecting cautious trading as investors adjusted to currency and bond market movements.
