Sri Lanka Rupee Strengthens to 292.15 Amid Quiet Bond Market

The Sri Lankan rupee opened stronger on Thursday at 292.15/18 against the US dollar, improving from Wednesday’s rate of 292.20/30, according to market dealers. Bond trading activity remained subdued as the country entered election day.

“Market is very quiet due to the election,” dealers noted, highlighting the limited bond transactions. Among the actively traded bonds:

  • The bond maturing on March 15, 2028, was quoted at 11.25/35%, up slightly from the previous day’s 11.15/35%.
  • The bond maturing on May 1, 2028, was quoted at 11.35/45%.

In the equities market, Colombo’s All Share Price Index (ASPI) saw a rise of 0.69%, gaining 90.18 points to reach 13,215.37. Meanwhile, the S&P SL20 index, which tracks more liquid stocks, increased by 0.98%, or 30.73 points, reaching 3,976.98. The market turnover stood at 167 million rupees.
