Sri Lanka Sees 18.5% Surge in Tourist Arrivals in May 2025

Colombo – June 3, 2025 — Sri Lanka’s tourism sector continues its steady rebound, recording an 18.5% year-on-year increase in tourist arrivals for May 2025, according to the latest data from the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau.

A total of 132,919 visitors entered the country in May, with India maintaining its lead as the largest source market. Indian tourists accounted for 47,001 arrivals, representing 35.4% of the monthly total.

The United Kingdom followed with 9,221 arrivals (6.9%), while China ranked third with 8,803 visitors (6.6%).

The island nation crossed the 1 million mark in cumulative arrivals earlier in May, reaching 1,029,803 visitors for the year to date — a promising sign for Sri Lanka’s ongoing tourism recovery and economic revival.
