India remains top source market; Total 2025 arrivals near 1 million mark

Sri Lanka continues its strong tourism rebound in 2025, with 80,421 tourists arriving in the first 18 days of May, according to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA).

India remains the leading source market, contributing 27,036 visitors, which accounts for 33.6% of May’s arrivals so far. Other significant contributors include the United Kingdom (5,486 arrivals), Germany (5,164), China (5,189), and Bangladesh (3,863).

With these latest numbers, the cumulative tourist arrivals for 2025 have reached 977,305. Of this total, 184,095 visitors have come from India, followed by 109,675 from Russia and 92,539 from the UK.

The SLTDA’s data reflects a steady upward trend in tourist numbers, aligning with the government’s target of reaching three million arrivals and generating $4 billion in tourism revenue by the end of the year.
