The Sri Lankan Embassy in Riyadh, in partnership with the Coconut Development Authority, successfully organized the debut participation of 10 Sri Lankan companies manufacturing coconut-based products at the 41st Saudi Agriculture Expo 2024. Held from October 21–24 at the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Centre, the event marked a significant milestone for Sri Lankan agricultural exports in the Middle East.
Sri Lankan Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Ameer Ajwad, inaugurated the Sri Lankan pavilion and emphasized the importance of the country’s presence at this premier agricultural event. “Participation in the Saudi Agriculture Expo provides a crucial platform for Sri Lankan companies to expand their reach in international markets, promoting high-quality products from our island,” he said, inviting other Sri Lankan agri-sector companies to join future exhibitions.
In alignment with Saudi Arabia’s ‘Green Initiative’ under Vision 2030, the ambassador highlighted the potential for Sri Lankan coco peat—a preferred growing medium in arid climates—to support tree planting and other sustainability initiatives in the region.
Key figures, including Prince Mutab bin Fahd bin Farhan from King Abdulaziz Reserve, Dr. Ali Alshaikhi from Saudi Arabia’s Environment and Agriculture Ministry, and Saudi NAF Group Chairman Fayez Al-Shaheeli, visited the Sri Lankan pavilion. The Sri Lanka trade delegation also met with the Saudi Green Building Forum to explore further collaboration opportunities, fostering new trade relationships. Ambassador Ajwad hosted a luncheon and feedback session for the Sri Lankan delegation to conclude their participation.
This year’s Saudi Agriculture Expo attracted over 370 exhibitors from 29 countries, showcasing cutting-edge agricultural technologies and solutions. Notable Sri Lankan companies participating included Dew Cocos Lanka Ltd., Earthscape Ltd., Eco Soil Substrates Ltd., FNF Exports Ltd., Hardy Export Company Ltd., M.C.
