Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) has been honored with the “Best International Tourism Board” award at the Global Tourism Awards 2024, held in New Delhi, India, on August 2.
The annual Global Tourism Awards, organized by Travel World Online (TWO), recognize organizations that have made significant contributions to the tourism industry. This year’s event featured a wide array of categories and attracted numerous global applicants, with selections made by a distinguished jury led by former ITC Executive Director Nakul Anand.
The award was presented to SLTPB Chairman Chalaka Gajabahu, with Tourism, Lands, Sports, and Youth Affairs Minister Harin Fernando serving as the Guest of Honour.
SLTPB Managing Director Nalin Perera expressed gratitude to the jury for the recognition, highlighting the bureau’s ongoing efforts to promote Sri Lanka as a premier tourism destination. Perera also acknowledged the role of recent accolades and endorsements from media and travel influencers in achieving this honor and thanked all travel industry stakeholders for their support.
As of July 31, 2024, Sri Lanka has welcomed 1,198,059 tourists, marking a 56% increase from 2023. The country is optimistic about reaching its target of 2.3 million tourists by the end of the year.
