In response to the suspension of the eVisa platform, Sri Lankan missions abroad will resume issuing tourist and business visas to facilitate international visitors. This measure aims to prevent inconvenience for travelers seeking to enter Sri Lanka while the electronic system is offline.
Tourism industry stakeholders have communicated to overseas travel agents and other relevant parties that visitors preferring to obtain travel authorization or a visa before their journey should contact the nearest Sri Lankan mission. The Visa on Arrival facility at Sri Lanka’s airport immigration counters remains operational for those arriving without prior authorization.
The Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) platform, which was in use until mid-April 2024, will be reinstated in due course, according to tourism industry associations.
The Supreme Court of Sri Lanka issued an interim order on August 2, 2024, halting the eVisa portal operated by IVS-GBS and VFS Global, effective immediately. The portal, accessible at https://www.srilankgevisa.lk, was suspended at 17:00 Sri Lanka time on Friday. Applicants who submitted eVisa applications after this time will receive a refund by providing their application number and details to travel.partner@srilankanevisa.lk.
