Sri Lankan Rupee Opens Weaker at 299.10/30 Against US Dollar, Bond Yields Steady

Sri Lanka’s rupee opened weaker on Tuesday, trading at 299.10/30 to the US dollar, according to market dealers. This marks a slight depreciation from the previous day’s closing rate of 298.80/299.00.

Bond yields remained largely steady in the secondary market. A bond maturing on December 15, 2026, was quoted at 11.00/15 percent, slightly down from 11.05/20 percent. Meanwhile, the bond maturing on December 15, 2027, remained stable at 12.00/15 percent. The bond set to mature on July 1, 2028, saw a minor increase, quoted at 12.85/95 percent, up from 12.80/95 percent. Additionally, the bond maturing on June 12, 2029, was quoted at 12.95/13.15 percent.

In the stock market, the Colombo All Share Price Index (ASPI) edged up by 3.39 points to 10,722, while the S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks dipped slightly by 0.05 percent, or 1.46 points, to 3,005. The day’s turnover was recorded at 54 million rupees.
