Sri Lankan Rupee Strengthens to 293.30/50 Against US Dollar; Bond Yields Rise

On Tuesday, the Sri Lankan rupee traded slightly stronger at 293.30/50 against the US dollar, compared to 293.50/80 from the previous day. Bond yields also saw an upward movement, according to market dealers.

An auction for 97 billion rupees worth of Treasury bills was ongoing, reflecting active government borrowing.

Key bond yield updates include:

  • A bond maturing on 15.12.2027 was quoted at 11.20/35%, rising from 11.15/25%.
  • A bond maturing on 15.02.2028 was quoted at 11.55/60%, up from 11.40/50%.
  • A bond maturing on 15.09.2029 was quoted at 11.75/90%, an increase from 11.55/75%.

In the equity market, Colombo’s All Share Price Index fell by 0.08%, or 9.49 points, to 12,236. Meanwhile, the S&P SL20, which tracks more liquid stocks, dropped 0.43%, or 15.02 points, to 3,599. The market turnover for the day reached 1 billion rupees.
