Sri Lankan Rupee Strengthens to 295.80 Against USD, Bond Yields Hold Steady

The Sri Lankan rupee opened stronger at 295.80/296.10 to the US dollar on Tuesday, showing a slight appreciation from Monday’s close of 296.10/60. Meanwhile, bond yields remained steady, with slight fluctuations across various maturities.

A bond maturing on 15.12.2027 was quoted at 11.60/80 percent, up marginally from 11.60/75 percent. The bond maturing on 15.02.2028 saw a shift to 11.92/98 percent, compared to 11.85/12.00 percent previously. A bond maturing on 15.06.2029 was steady at 11.90/12.10 percent.

In the stock market, Colombo’s All Share Price Index (ASPI) rose slightly by 0.03 percent, gaining 3.67 points to reach 11,858. The S&P SL20 index, which tracks more liquid stocks, also opened higher, increasing by 0.26 percent or 8.97 points to 3,450.

The market turnover for the day stood at 107 million rupees. In related news, the central bank announced plans to issue 142,500 million rupees worth of Treasury bills through an auction scheduled for tomorrow.
