Sri Lankan Rupee Strengthens to 298.70 Against US Dollar, Bond Yields Rise

Sri Lanka’s rupee opened stronger on Friday, trading at 298.70/80 against the US dollar, according to market dealers. The rupee had closed at 298.80/90 on Thursday. Bond yields also saw an uptick, and stocks opened with a slight rise of 0.09 percent.

In the secondary bond market:

  • A bond maturing on 15th December 2026 was quoted at 11.15/40 percent, up from 11.10/25 percent.
  • A bond maturing on 1st July 2028 was quoted at 12.85/13.00 percent, up from 12.85/95 percent.
  • A bond maturing on 15th June 2029 was quoted at 12.10/25 percent.

In the stock market, the Colombo All Share Price Index (ASPI) opened 9.88 points higher at 10,811, while the S&P SL20 Index of more liquid stocks fell by 0.23 percent or 6.91 points, standing at 3,042.

The market turnover for the day stood at 76 million rupees.
