Sri Lankan Rupee Strengthens to 298.80 Against US Dollar, Bond Yields Rise

Sri Lanka’s rupee appreciated on Wednesday, opening at 298.80/299.00 against the US dollar, compared to Tuesday’s close of 299.10/20. Dealers reported a slight uptick in bond yields, while stocks also saw gains at the opening.

In the secondary bond market:

  • The 15.12.2026 bond was quoted at 11.15/20 percent, up from 11.05/15 percent.
  • The 15.12.2027 bond remained steady at 12.00/20 percent, slightly down from 12.05/15 percent.
  • The 01.07.2028 bond increased to 12.80/90 percent, from its previous 12.75/60 percent.
  • The 15.06.2029 bond was quoted at 12.95/13.05 percent.

In equities, Colombo’s All Share Price Index (ASPI) opened 89.23 points higher at 10,762, while the S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks dropped by 1.54 percent, or 46.20 points, to 3,036. The market turnover stood at 156 million rupees.
