Sri Lanka’s President Announces Adoption of 75 New Laws Over Past Two Years

President Ranil Wickremesinghe announced that Sri Lanka has implemented 75 new laws in the past two years, marking a significant milestone in legal reform. Speaking at the inauguration of the new Court Complex in Theldeniya, Wickremesinghe highlighted the country’s commitment to enhancing its legal system.

The inauguration of the three-storey Court Complex replaces the original Magistrate’s Court, which was submerged under the Victoria Reservoir. Wickremesinghe emphasized the importance of timely justice delivery and the need for MPs to fulfill their legislative duties.

Addressing delays in the legal process, Wickremesinghe stressed the significance of efficient hearings in ensuring justice is served promptly. He underscored the importance of upholding the rule of law for national stability and economic development.

Furthermore, Wickremesinghe highlighted Sri Lanka’s commitment to implementing laws supporting economic transformation, in accordance with agreements with the IMF. He emphasized the government’s dedication to advancing these initiatives to secure international support and foster economic growth.
