India Leads Tourist Influx as Mid-Year Numbers Cross 1.1 Million
Sri Lanka’s tourism sector continues its upward trajectory, with tourist arrivals from June 1 to 18 increasing by 12 percent compared to the same period last year. According to the latest data from the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, 74,570 visitors were recorded during this period, up from 66,522 in 2024.
India remains the leading source of tourists, contributing a significant 22,000 arrivals. The United Kingdom followed with 6,158 visitors, while China accounted for 4,789 tourists. Bangladesh also featured prominently with 4,515 arrivals.
These mid-June figures push Sri Lanka’s total tourist arrivals for the year to date to 1,104,373, signaling continued recovery and growth in the country’s tourism industry.
The steady increase highlights renewed global interest in Sri Lanka as a travel destination, with regional neighbors and traditional Western markets showing strong participation. Industry stakeholders view this positive momentum as a sign of resilience and a strong foundation for further growth in the second half of 2025.
