United Petroleum Meets with Sri Lankan President to Discuss $100 Million Expansion Plan

United Petroleum, an Australian energy giant, has signaled its intent to expand its operations in Sri Lanka by meeting with President Ranil Wickremesinghe. The senior leadership team, including Co-Founder Avi Silver, Group CFO Nigel Simonsz, Group Procurement Head Brett Crawford, and United Petroleum Lanka Director/CEO Dr. Prabath Samarasinghe, discussed the company’s future plans in the region.

The meeting, which also included Board of Investment (BOI) Chairman Dinesh Weerakkody, took place as United Petroleum prepares to launch its first international retail operations outside of Australia. This strategic move marks a significant step in the company’s global expansion efforts.

Recently, United Petroleum hosted a distributor appreciation event in Colombo, where they highlighted their plans to expand their lubricant range and introduce a convenience store model at their gas stations. This initiative underscores the company’s commitment to enhancing customer experiences at fuel stations.

Starting from 28 August, United Petroleum will begin its operations in Sri Lanka with 150 filling stations, with plans to establish an additional 50 stations. This represents an investment exceeding $100 million, further strengthening its presence in the local energy market.

United Petroleum’s ambitious expansion plan aligns with Sri Lanka’s economic development goals and is expected to create more business opportunities and enhance fuel accessibility throughout the country.
