Verité Research Establishes New Division Focused on Governance and Anti-Corruption Research

Verité Research, Sri Lanka’s leading think tank, has announced the establishment of a new governance and anti-corruption research division, led by attorney-at-law Sankhitha Gunaratne. With over a decade of experience advocating for transparent and accountable governance, Gunaratne’s appointment underscores Verité Research’s commitment to addressing systemic corruption in the country. The formation of the Governance and Anti-Corruption (GAC) division comes at a crucial time, amid widespread calls for reform and accountability across various sectors.

The GAC division will utilize research insights to navigate complex governance challenges and develop anti-corruption solutions tailored to Sri Lanka’s context. By collaborating with existing divisions within Verité Research, including Economy, Media & Politics, and Law, the GAC division aims to strengthen the think tank’s interdisciplinary approach to addressing governance issues. Gunaratne’s extensive background, including her tenure as deputy executive director of Transparency International Sri Lanka, positions her as a key leader in driving policy and legislative reforms to combat corruption.

Gunaratne’s expertise spans various aspects of anti-corruption efforts, from advocating for the right to information to addressing corruption in both the public and private sectors. Her international involvement, notably serving on the Board of the ‘UNCAC Coalition,’ highlights her commitment to promoting the UN Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC). As a Chevening scholar with a Master of Arts in Corruption and Governance from the University of Sussex, Gunaratne brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her new role at Verité Research.

With the establishment of the GAC division and Gunaratne’s leadership, Verité Research aims to play a significant role in shaping governance reforms and combating corruption in Sri Lanka. The division’s focus on research-driven solutions underscores the think tank’s dedication to fostering transparency, accountability, and integrity across all levels of society.
