Women in Management (WIM) is set to launch WIM Global Membership, a new initiative aimed at fostering global connectivity and empowering individuals from diverse backgrounds. Starting January 1, 2025, this program will offer women and men worldwide opportunities to network, collaborate, and participate in the global economy. Simultaneously, WIM will commence operations for its USA chapter, with a Board of Leaders guiding the initiative to cultivate a vibrant community committed to driving positive change and innovation on a global scale.
The organization has been actively engaged in empowering women in Sri Lanka and beyond through various projects, including the Single Mother project. This initiative focuses on harnessing the potential of single mothers by providing training, education, and support to establish micro-enterprises, empowering them with the skills and knowledge to navigate the market successfully.
Another significant project, ‘Blessed Kids,’ aims to uplift the children of single mothers by providing them with educational support, including extra classes and stationery, to complete their O/L or A/L studies. This project is crucial in preventing early marriages, substance abuse, and unstable employment among these children.
Recently, at a meeting in Colombo, Dr. Sulochana Segera, Chairman and Founder of WIM, announced plans to establish a Safe House for girls below the age of 18. The organization has taken over the Maduruketiya Children Development Centre in Monaragala, currently housing 42 girls with space for 50. This initiative signifies a commitment to providing a safe environment for girls who have experienced abandonment, abuse, and trauma, ensuring their safety, education, and overall well-being.
WIM’s expansion extends beyond Sri Lanka, with a presence in Maldives, Canada, Malaysia, UAE, and the UK, with plans for further network expansion in the future. Additionally, new projects are underway to empower women in the corporate sector, reflecting WIM’s ongoing commitment to fostering gender equality and empowerment globally.
