Sri Lanka Rupee Holds Steady Against US Dollar; Bond Yields Mixed Ahead of Auction

Sri Lanka’s rupee remained stable in early trade on Thursday, quoted at 290.22/280 against the US dollar, slightly stronger than the previous day’s close of 290.30/35, according to market dealers. Bond yields displayed mixed movements ahead of the Treasury bond auction scheduled for today.

A breakdown of bond performance showed:

  • A bond maturing on 15.12.2026 was steady at 9.35/50 percent.
  • A bond maturing on 15.10.2027 rose to 10.90/11.00 percent, up from 9.85/10.00 percent on Wednesday.
  • A bond maturing on 15.02.2028 dropped to 10.15/24 percent from 10.25/35 percent.
  • A bond maturing on 15.10.2028 eased to 10.45/50 percent from 10.50/60 percent.
  • A bond maturing on 15.09.2029 ticked up to 10.70/80 percent from 10.75/90 percent.

The government plans to auction 132.5 billion rupees worth of Treasury bonds later today.
