Sun Siyam Pasikudah Celebrates World Tourism Day 2026

Sun Siyam Pasikudah will mark World Tourism Day 2026 with a full-day programme celebrating Sri Lankan culture, cuisine and coastal heritage, alongside community-focused sustainability activities designed to connect guests more closely with the destination.

Sun Siyam Pasikudah brings Sri Lankan culture, cuisine and sustainability together

The celebrations, scheduled for 27 September 2026, will combine culinary experiences, traditional performances and activities focused on environmental responsibility at the boutique resort on Sri Lanka’s east coast.

The programme will begin with a buffet featuring authentic Sri Lankan cuisine, giving guests an opportunity to experience traditional flavours as part of the World Tourism Day celebrations. This will be followed by a street food festival featuring regional snacks and traditional sweets that are less commonly found on conventional resort menus.

A specially created World Tourism Day mocktail and cocktail will also be available throughout the day, adding a signature element to the culinary programme. Traditional Sri Lankan cultural dance performances will complement the food experiences, offering guests a closer connection to the country’s artistic and cultural heritage.

For Sun Siyam Pasikudah, the programme extends beyond hospitality and entertainment. The resort has also organised a tree-planting activity involving guests, alongside a beach or park clean-up campaign. Both activities are intended to reinforce the importance of environmental responsibility within the tourism experience.

The activities reflect the growing relevance of responsible tourism in Sri Lanka, particularly for resorts operating in environmentally sensitive coastal destinations. Tourism depends heavily on the quality of natural surroundings, cultural heritage and local communities, making their protection an increasingly important part of the industry’s long-term development.

Located along the calm waters of Pasikudah Bay, the resort has 34 villas, pavilions and suites. Its accommodation options include Garden Pavilions, Ocean Pavilions, Private Pool Pavilions and Two Bedroom Pool Beach Villas, with the property designed around privacy, space and a connection with its coastal surroundings.

The resort’s relatively small scale allows it to position itself as a boutique destination rather than a large-volume resort. Its offering combines accommodation with dining, wellness and excursions designed to encourage visitors to experience aspects of Sri Lanka beyond the immediate beachfront.

Guests have access to six dining and drinking venues across the property: The Cellar, The Kitchen, The Tea House, The Bar, The Slice and Grill, and The Beach Shack. The resort also features a 30-metre infinity pool and a boutique spa offering Ayurveda and wellness treatments.

The World Tourism Day programme adds another dimension to that offering by bringing local culture and environmental activities directly into the guest experience. Rather than limiting the celebration to a one-day hospitality programme, the activities connect tourism with the wider destination and its communities.

The resort also arranges excursions to nearby national parks, UNESCO heritage sites and local villages. Such experiences provide visitors with opportunities to explore Sri Lanka’s natural and cultural attractions while gaining a broader understanding of life beyond the resort environment.

Arshed Refai, General Manager of Sun Siyam Pasikudah, said World Tourism Day provides an opportunity to highlight the people, food and natural surroundings that make the destination distinctive. He also emphasised the importance of tourism contributing positively to the places in which it operates.

The approach places community and environmental considerations alongside the traditional hospitality elements of the resort. For visitors, activities such as tree planting and clean-up campaigns offer a practical way to participate in destination stewardship during their stay.

World Tourism Day 2026 also provides an opportunity for Sri Lanka’s tourism businesses to highlight the country’s diverse cultural and natural assets. The east coast, in particular, offers a combination of beaches, heritage, wildlife and local communities that can support tourism experiences beyond conventional coastal holidays.

Pasikudah is known for its shallow, calm waters, while the surrounding eastern region provides access to a variety of attractions. By combining resort-based experiences with excursions and cultural activities, the property seeks to position the destination as one where relaxation and discovery can coexist.

For guests staying at Sun Siyam Pasikudah on 27 September, the programme will provide opportunities to participate in the culinary experiences, cultural performances and environmental initiatives throughout the day. The combination is designed to make World Tourism Day a shared experience rather than simply an event taking place within the resort.

As part of the Maldivian-owned Sun Siyam Resorts group and its Privé Collection, the property represents the group’s presence in Sri Lanka’s boutique luxury hospitality segment. Its positioning is centred on a quieter, discovery-led experience that incorporates local culture, cuisine and the natural character of the destination.

The World Tourism Day programme reinforces that positioning by bringing those elements together in a single celebration. It also demonstrates how hospitality properties can use major tourism occasions to encourage guests to engage more directly with local culture and environmental stewardship.

With its combination of Sri Lankan cuisine, traditional performances, coastal surroundings and community-focused activities, the September 27 programme is set to give guests a broader experience of Pasikudah while highlighting the connection between tourism and responsible destination management.
