Vietjet Starlink will bring free high-speed Wi-Fi to passengers across the airline’s network, including the Colombo-Ho Chi Minh City route, as the carrier begins a major satellite connectivity rollout.

Vietjet has signed a strategic partnership with Starlink, the satellite internet service engineered and operated by SpaceX, to provide complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi to passengers on Vietjet-branded flights. The agreement was signed during Vietnam General Secretary and President To Lam’s working visit to the United States and exchanged in the presence of senior leaders and business representatives from both countries.
The partnership represents a new step in aviation technology cooperation between Vietnam and the United States, while positioning onboard connectivity as a broader part of Vietjet’s digital aviation strategy. Vietjet said the service will be available to passengers without an additional charge, changing the role of inflight internet from a premium feature to a more accessible service.
Under the initial deployment plan, Starlink connectivity will be installed on 120 Vietjet aircraft. The rollout will cover 100 Airbus A321 and Boeing 737 aircraft, together with 20 Airbus A330 aircraft. Vietjet also plans to equip future aircraft deliveries with high-speed internet, allowing the technology to expand as the airline’s fleet grows.
The planned coverage extends across Vietjet’s domestic and international network, including its Colombo-Ho Chi Minh City route. For passengers travelling between Sri Lanka and Vietnam, the development could provide greater access to digital services during flights, including work applications, messaging, entertainment and online content.
Starlink’s low-Earth-orbit satellite network is designed to provide high-speed, low-latency connectivity in areas where conventional internet infrastructure may be unavailable. According to the companies, its coverage capabilities include oceanic, polar and remote areas, supporting connectivity throughout more of a passenger’s journey.
Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Chairwoman of Vietjet, said the partnership would allow passengers to remain connected while travelling, whether they are working, communicating with family and friends or accessing entertainment. She described the initiative as part of Vietjet’s broader commitment to innovation and bringing advanced technologies to a wider customer base.
The agreement also reflects the increasing importance of digital connectivity within the aviation industry. As passengers increasingly rely on cloud services, messaging platforms, streaming applications and other online tools, reliable inflight connectivity is becoming more closely linked to the overall travel experience.
For Vietjet, the Starlink rollout is also connected to its wider technology investment programme. The airline said it is developing a digital aviation ecosystem supported by a modern fleet, data capabilities, artificial intelligence and skilled personnel. The objective is to maintain connectivity for passengers travelling across its growing network.

He highlighted the potential for the service to improve the passenger experience by providing reliable internet access during flights.
The Vietjet Starlink agreement is expected to develop into a long-term technology relationship between Vietjet and SpaceX. The initial 120-aircraft installation provides the foundation for a wider deployment, while the airline’s plan to equip future aircraft suggests that onboard connectivity will become part of its fleet development strategy rather than a limited retrofit programme.
The introduction of free inflight Wi-Fi also has significance for international passengers travelling on Vietjet’s expanding network. For travellers flying between Vietnam and Sri Lanka, including those using the Colombo-Ho Chi Minh City route, access to connectivity could make it easier to remain in contact with businesses, families and digital services while in the air.
Vietjet is Vietnam’s largest private carrier and operates domestic and international services. The airline says it has focused on cost-efficient operations, flexible fares, technology adoption and diversified services as part of its growth strategy. It is also a member of the International Air Transport Association and holds an IATA Operational Safety Audit certificate.
For Starlink, the Vietjet partnership expands the application of its satellite connectivity technology into another major aviation network. The service is operated by SpaceX and uses a low-Earth-orbit satellite constellation designed to deliver broadband connectivity.
