CCC and Cochin Chamber have taken a significant step toward strengthening regional business collaboration by facilitating direct engagement between Sri Lankan companies and businesses from India’s Kerala state, with discussions focused on expanding trade, investment, and private-sector partnerships.
CCC and Cochin Chamber explore cross-border business opportunities across key sectors
The initiative was led by The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC), which hosted a business delegation from the Cochin Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) on August 4, creating a platform for business leaders from both countries to identify new commercial opportunities and deepen bilateral economic ties.
Established in 1857, the Cochin Chamber of Commerce and Industry is one of India’s oldest business chambers, representing enterprises across a diverse range of industries while playing a key role in supporting regional economic development.
The visiting delegation was led by CCCI President Vinodini Sukumar and included Past President C. S. Kartha, chamber officials, and leading Indian business representatives. They were welcomed by The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Chairperson Krishan Balendra, Secretary General and Chief Executive Officer Shiran Fernando, Deputy Secretary General, Chief Operating Officer and Financial Controller Alikie Perera, together with other representatives of the Chamber.
As part of the visit, delegates participated in a B2B networking session with Sri Lankan businesses, providing companies from both countries with the opportunity to establish direct contacts, exchange market insights, and explore areas for future cooperation.
The discussions covered a broad range of industries where businesses identified strong potential for collaboration. These included logistics and shipping, export and import trade, hospital products and medical supplies, cold storage solutions, advertising and marketing services, and Sri Lanka’s tea industry.
Participants also exchanged views on evolving market trends, regional supply chain opportunities, and strategies for strengthening commercial partnerships between Sri Lanka and Kerala. The dialogue reflected a growing interest among businesses in both markets to expand regional trade and diversify commercial relationships.
A key focus of the engagement was Kerala’s rapidly growing industrial and services sectors, supported by a highly skilled workforce. Delegates discussed how businesses in Sri Lanka and India could leverage their complementary strengths to create mutually beneficial partnerships across manufacturing, services, technology, and trade.
Beyond immediate commercial opportunities, the meeting explored the potential for wider collaboration through regional trade, investment promotion, technology partnerships, business services, and knowledge sharing. Business leaders acknowledged that stronger private-sector engagement would play an increasingly important role in enhancing economic integration between the two neighbouring countries.
The discussions also underscored the importance of business chambers in facilitating dialogue, connecting enterprises, and supporting companies seeking to expand into regional markets. By bringing together business leaders from diverse industries, the initiative created opportunities for companies to identify practical avenues for collaboration while building long-term commercial relationships.
For Sri Lankan businesses, closer engagement with Kerala presents opportunities to access one of India’s dynamic regional economies, while Indian companies can benefit from Sri Lanka’s strategic location, established logistics network, and growing export-oriented industries.
