Asiri Surgical Hospital Shares Fall 22% on Heavy Trading at Colombo Bourse

The stock was the steepest decliner on the board and the day’s largest turnover contributor, while also recording the session’s biggest net foreign purchase.

Shares of Asiri Surgical Hospital PLC (AMSL) fell about 22% on the Colombo Stock Exchange, the largest single-stock decline of a session in which the broader market ended flat.

The counter generated LKR 156 million in turnover, 15% of the market total and the highest of any listed company. About 15.5 million AMSL shares changed hands, roughly 36% of total market volume of 43.09 million shares. The market overall traded LKR 1.07 billion, about 27% below its monthly average of LKR 1.5 billion.

Foreign investors were net buyers of AMSL to the extent of LKR 70 million, the largest net foreign purchase of the day. That sits against a net foreign outflow of LKR 29.3 million for the market as a whole, driven largely by net selling of other counters, including COMB (LKR 59.8 million) and DIAL (LKR 23.5 million).

The ASPI rose 0.03% to 20,650.23 and the S&P SL20 slipped 0.05% to 5,844.28, so AMSL’s fall had little effect on the headline indices.

No explanation for the price movement was available from CSE market data at the time of writing. SriLankaBiz will update this report if the company or the exchange issues a disclosure.

Business Impact

A fall of this size in a single listed healthcare company, on turnover well above its usual level, is notable for AMSL shareholders and for those following the private hospital sector. Without a disclosed reason, the move on its own does not indicate any change in the company’s operations or in the sector.
