Smart Media IFRS Foundation partnership has reached a new milestone with the Sri Lankan corporate reporting specialist being appointed as a Global Training Partner for ISSB Disclosure Training, strengthening its role in advancing sustainability reporting expertise worldwide.
Smart Media IFRS Foundation appointment expands ISSB Disclosure Training globally
Smart Media The Annual Report Company has been officially appointed as a Global Training Partner to the IFRS Foundation for ISSB Disclosure Training, enabling the company to deliver authorised training programmes using IFRS Foundation-developed content through trainers certified by the global standard-setting body.
The appointment places Smart Media among only 14 organisations worldwide recognised by the IFRS Foundation as Global Training Partners for ISSB Disclosure Training. In addition, the company has been designated the official Jurisdictional Training Partner for Sri Lanka, reinforcing its position as a leading provider of corporate reporting and sustainability reporting expertise.
Founded in Sri Lanka, Smart Media has grown into a specialist corporate reporting firm serving leading organisations across multiple international markets. The latest appointment further expands its role in supporting businesses, boards of directors, finance teams, investor relations professionals, sustainability specialists and capital market participants as they adapt to rapidly evolving reporting requirements.
The ISSB Disclosure Training programme is designed to provide practical, application-focused learning that equips corporate preparers with the knowledge and skills required to produce high-quality sustainability disclosure reports for investors and capital markets. Participants who successfully complete the programme receive a co-branded IFRS Foundation certificate and may progress to the IFRS Foundation’s FSA Level I qualification.
The appointment builds on Smart Media’s longstanding collaboration with the IFRS Foundation and its broader commitment to advancing corporate reporting standards. Since 2019, the company has served as an official training partner for the IFRS Integrated Reporting Framework. It has also supported organisations in measuring and reporting greenhouse gas emissions since 2009, while operating as a greenhouse gas-neutral company across Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, and Scope 3 where material and measurable.
Commenting on the achievement, Executive Chairman Vijith Kannangara described the appointment as a significant milestone for the company.
“For nearly four decades, we have helped organisations produce clearer, more connected corporate reports. As sustainability-related financial disclosures become increasingly important to investors and capital markets, we are pleased to support consistent, high-quality learning using IFRS Foundation-developed content,” he said.
Chief Knowledge Officer Ajit Chittambalam said the emergence of the ISSB Standards is transforming the way companies approach sustainability-related financial reporting.
“The ISSB Standards are reshaping the way companies think about sustainability-related financial information. Our focus will be on demystifying the requirements and helping preparers understand their application from a reporting perspective, with training that is practical, relevant, and grounded in the realities of corporate reporting,” he said.
Looking ahead, Smart Media plans to collaborate with accounting bodies, stock exchanges, governance institutes, accounting firms and sustainability consulting organisations across different jurisdictions to deliver ISSB Disclosure Training. The company said its jurisdiction- and sector-agnostic approach will enable it to provide practical guidance to organisations seeking to understand and implement global sustainability reporting requirements.
The Smart Media IFRS Foundation appointment reflects the growing importance of internationally recognised sustainability disclosure standards as investors and regulators increasingly demand transparent, consistent and comparable environmental, social and governance-related financial information. It also highlights Sri Lanka’s continued contribution to the global corporate reporting landscape through specialist expertise in integrated and sustainability reporting.
