Toyota Lanka flagship showroom in Bambalapitiya has taken a significant step forward with the groundbreaking ceremony for the company’s newest automotive facility, reinforcing Toyota Lanka’s long-term commitment to expanding its presence and enhancing customer experience across Sri Lanka.
Toyota Lanka flagship showroom in Bambalapitiya marks major expansion milestone
The ceremony, held last week, brought together senior representatives from Toyota Lanka, including Chairman Masaaki Kawabata, Managing Director and CEO Manohara Athukorala, and Design Consortium International Chairman Architect Migara Alwis, who attended as special invitees to mark the occasion.
The new development represents another milestone in Toyota Lanka’s nationwide expansion strategy. Once completed, the facility is expected to become the company’s flagship showroom, offering customers a modern environment that combines innovative automotive retail concepts with world-class service standards.
Speaking at the event, Managing Director and CEO Manohara Athukorala said the Toyota Lanka flagship showroom in Bambalapitiya is much more than a new building. He described it as a symbol of the company’s commitment to strengthening relationships with customers while continuously improving service quality and ownership experiences.
“This is a long-felt dream that is finally becoming a reality,” Athukorala said, adding that the project reflects Toyota Lanka’s vision of delivering international standards to Sri Lankan customers.
He also reflected on the company’s long-standing relationship with the late Professor Lakshman, the founding Chairman of Design Consortium International, describing him as a loyal Toyota customer who maintained a corporate association with the company for more than 25 years.
Athukorala noted that it was especially meaningful to see Architect Migara Alwis, the son of Professor Lakshman, leading the design of the new flagship showroom, continuing a relationship that has spanned generations.
Designed by Design Consortium International, the showroom will feature contemporary architecture that blends innovation, functionality and customer-focused design. The facility will include interactive vehicle display areas, immersive brand experiences and dedicated test-drive facilities, creating a modern automotive destination for prospective buyers.
The architectural concept has been developed to reflect Toyota’s global retail identity while meeting the evolving expectations of Sri Lankan consumers. The project also aims to provide an improved environment for after-sales services and customer engagement, supporting Toyota Lanka’s broader strategy of delivering a premium ownership experience.
Under the leadership of Architect Migara Alwis, Design Consortium International has established itself as one of Sri Lanka’s leading architectural practices. The firm has contributed to numerous landmark developments that have helped shape Colombo’s modern skyline through innovative and sustainable design solutions.
Its portfolio spans commercial, residential and mixed-use developments, with projects recognised for combining functional design with contemporary architecture. The new Toyota Lanka flagship showroom in Bambalapitiya is expected to add another distinctive landmark to Colombo’s urban landscape while reinforcing Toyota’s brand presence in Sri Lanka.
The investment also reflects continued confidence in Sri Lanka’s automotive retail sector despite changing market conditions. Modern showroom developments increasingly focus on customer engagement, digital experiences and integrated service facilities, aligning with evolving global trends in automotive retail.
For Toyota Lanka, the flagship showroom represents another step in strengthening its nationwide network while enhancing accessibility for customers in Colombo and surrounding areas. The project is expected to support future growth by offering a comprehensive retail experience that combines vehicle sales, customer interaction and after-sales support under one roof.
As construction progresses, the Toyota Lanka flagship showroom in Bambalapitiya is expected to become a key destination for customers seeking Toyota’s latest vehicles and services while showcasing the company’s continued investment in Sri Lanka’s automotive industry.
