Bus fares in Sri Lanka will be reduced by 5.07 percent from midnight on July 1, as announced by the National Transport Commission. The minimum fare will decrease by 2 rupees, from 30 to 28.
“We considered 12 factors for the revision, including costs of tyres, tubes, battery and spare parts, interest rates, and bus prices, to arrive at this percentage, and agreements with bus operator associations,” NTC Chairman Shashi Welgama told reporters.
Additionally, the state-run Ceylon Petroleum Corporation has cut the prices of standard petrol, super petrol, and super diesel as part of the monthly fuel price revision.
A special gazette notification has also been issued, declaring public transport services an essential service.
