Cabinet spokesperson and Minister Vijitha Herath has urged the public to apply for passports at the Department of Immigration and Emigration only for urgent matters. Speaking to the media, Minister Herath advised that those requiring passports for non-immediate or long-term purposes consider postponing their applications, as there are ample stocks to meet current demands.
According to the minister, the Department is issuing around 1,600 passports daily to accommodate immediate requirements. By prioritizing urgent applications, the Department aims to streamline services for those with pressing travel needs.
