The launch marks a significant milestone for Sri Lanka’s electric vehicle market, bringing one of the world’s emerging smart mobility brands to local consumers while expanding the range of premium electric vehicle options available in the country.

Evolution Auto Private Limited, the authorised distributor for Xpeng in Sri Lanka, officially unveiled the New Generation Xpeng G6 at its multi-brand showroom in Colombo 05 on 22 May. The launch event attracted media representatives, industry stakeholders, business leaders, and invited guests who gathered to witness the introduction of the company’s latest premium electric SUV.

The evening featured a formal vehicle unveiling, interactive demonstrations, and test drive opportunities, allowing attendees to experience the vehicle’s technology, performance, and comfort features firsthand. The launch reflects growing consumer interest in sustainable transportation solutions and highlights the increasing momentum within Sri Lanka’s electric vehicle market.

Industry observers note that while interest in electric mobility continues to expand across Sri Lanka, consumers often remain concerned about factors such as driving range, aftersales support, charging infrastructure, and the availability of premium models. The introduction of the Xpeng G6 seeks to address many of these concerns by combining advanced technology, competitive driving range, and a comprehensive ownership experience.

Speaking at the event, Evolution Auto Head of Marketing Ashan Wickramasinghe emphasized that the launch represents more than simply introducing a new vehicle model to the local market.

He stated that the company is bringing a new benchmark in technology, ownership experience, and customer expectations for modern electric vehicles in Sri Lanka.

Positioned within the global mid-to-upper segment of the premium electric SUV category, the Xpeng G6 offers a WLTP-certified driving range of up to 480 kilometres. The vehicle is powered by an electric motor generating 110 kW of output and 440 Nm of torque, providing a balance of efficiency, performance, and practicality for daily driving needs.

One of the vehicle’s most notable features is XPILOT, Xpeng’s proprietary Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System. The technology includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Centering, automated parking capabilities, and remote summon functionality. These features are designed to improve safety and convenience while maintaining driver responsibility in line with international Level 2 autonomy standards.

Inside the cabin, the Xpeng G6 places significant emphasis on technology and passenger comfort. The vehicle is equipped with a large 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system that serves as the central hub for connectivity and vehicle controls. Complementing the digital experience is the XOPERA 2.0 premium sound system featuring 18 speakers, delivering an immersive audio environment for occupants.

Additional comfort features include ventilated and massaging front seats, dual-glazed soundproof glass, and active noise cancellation technology. These enhancements contribute to a refined driving experience and reinforce the vehicle’s positioning as a premium electric SUV designed for both performance and luxury.

The arrival of the Xpeng G6 also represents the entry of a globally recognised technology-driven automotive brand into Sri Lanka. As electric mobility continues to gain traction worldwide, international manufacturers are increasingly focusing on emerging markets where demand for sustainable transportation solutions is rising.

For Sri Lanka, the launch signals continued progress in the transition towards cleaner mobility solutions and greater consumer choice within the electric vehicle market. The introduction of technologically advanced models such as the G6 may help accelerate EV adoption by addressing concerns around performance, convenience, and overall ownership value.

Evolution Auto stated that the launch aligns with its long-term vision of expanding access to advanced electric mobility solutions in Sri Lanka. The company believes that modern consumers are increasingly seeking vehicles that combine sustainability with innovation, comfort, and intelligent technology.

The announcement that Evolution Auto launches ‘Xpeng G6’ in Sri Lanka reflects the broader transformation taking place within the automotive industry, where digital integration, intelligent driving systems, and sustainable mobility are becoming key drivers of consumer demand. As the local market evolves, the introduction of globally competitive vehicles such as the Xpeng G6 is expected to contribute to the growth of Sri Lanka’s electric mobility ecosystem and create new benchmarks for the future of transportation.
