Remarko Bakers and Orzone Mineral Water strengthen Sri Lankan brand collaboration through strategic tie-up

The partnership marks a significant step for both companies as they seek to scale operations and reinforce their positions within the competitive Sri Lankan food and beverage sector while also expanding international visibility.

Building on the rapid expansion of its franchise model, Remarko Bakers and Caterers has successfully launched more than 25 franchise outlets within just two months. This aggressive growth strategy reflects strong market demand and the company’s continued focus on empowering local entrepreneurs through structured franchise opportunities.

At the same time, Orzone Mineral Water Exports Ltd. brings decades of industry experience and international credibility to the collaboration. Founded in 1995, Orzone has established itself as a pioneer in Sri Lanka’s bottled water industry and a strong exporter to global markets including Japan, Australia, and the Maldives.

The partnership between Remarko Bakers and Orzone Mineral Water is seen as a natural alignment of two brands that share similar values in entrepreneurship, quality assurance, and international competitiveness. Industry observers note that such collaborations are increasingly important in strengthening Sri Lanka’s position in global value chains.

Orzone Mineral Water currently bottles over 30 million litres annually and operates a well-established distribution network across Sri Lanka through more than 25 independent distributors. The company’s recognition as one of the Top 10 Food & Beverage Exporters by the Export Development Board in 2011 further highlights its strong performance in both domestic and export markets.

Remarko Bakers and Caterers, meanwhile, has built a legacy spanning more than four decades. Founded in 1983 by entrepreneur and international chef Riencey Withanage, the company has become a well-recognised name in Sri Lanka’s bakery and catering industry. With over 25 years of leadership under Withanage, Remarko has evolved into a brand known for innovation, freshness, and consistent quality.

The franchise business Sri Lanka landscape has seen notable growth in recent years, with companies increasingly adopting scalable business models to expand their reach. Remarko’s franchise-driven strategy aligns with this trend, enabling rapid expansion while maintaining operational consistency across locations.

Speaking on the partnership, Remarko Chief Marketing Officer Hashan Haputhanthri emphasized the strategic value of aligning with Orzone. He noted that both companies share a strong entrepreneurial foundation and a commitment to building Sri Lankan brands that can compete internationally.

According to Haputhanthri, the collaboration represents more than a commercial agreement. It reflects a shared vision of promoting locally developed products that can meet global standards while contributing to national economic growth.

Orzone Mineral Water Exports is led by Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Upul B. Senarath, whose leadership has been instrumental in transforming the company into an award-winning export brand. The group also operates Ackzorne Lanka Ltd., a manufacturing arm producing PET bottles and caps, ensuring vertical integration and consistent product quality across its operations.

The involvement of Board Directors Aruna S. Senarath and Neal N. Senarath has further strengthened the company’s strategic direction, enabling Orzone to maintain its reputation as a reliable Sri Lankan exporter with strong international partnerships.

The collaboration between Remarko Bakers and Orzone Mineral Water will see Orzone become the official mineral water partner across Remarko’s expanding franchise network. This integration is expected to enhance product consistency, improve supply reliability, and strengthen customer trust across all outlets.

Within the broader Sri Lankan food and beverage industry, such strategic alliances are becoming increasingly important as companies look to scale operations while maintaining quality standards. Industry analysts say partnerships like this help local brands build stronger ecosystems that support both domestic growth and export competitiveness.

The agreement also highlights the growing importance of brand synergy in Sri Lanka’s evolving consumer market. By combining expertise in bakery and catering with established expertise in bottled water production, both companies aim to deliver improved customer experiences and operational efficiency.

As both organisations continue to expand, the partnership is expected to contribute to stronger brand visibility and increased market penetration. Stakeholders believe the collaboration could serve as a model for future partnerships within the country’s franchise and food manufacturing sectors.

Ultimately, the alliance between Remarko Bakers and Orzone Mineral Water underscores a shared commitment to strengthening Sri Lanka’s entrepreneurial landscape while delivering high-quality products to both local and international consumers.
