Sri Lanka Expo 2027 is being promoted internationally through a newly branded SriLankan Airlines Airbus A321neo, as Sri Lanka prepares to host a major exhibition aimed at attracting global buyers, investors and trade partners.
Sri Lanka Expo 2027 targets global buyers, investors and trade partners
The initiative by the Export Development Board (EDB) is designed to raise international awareness of the event while showcasing the breadth of Sri Lanka’s export economy, including agriculture, manufacturing, services, innovation and tourism.
The EDB recently unveiled the specially branded Airbus A321neo at an event attended by EDB Chairman and CEO Mangala Wijesinghe, Director General Erandika Dissanayake, Sri Lanka Expo 2027 Project Lead and Director – Export Services Indumini Kodikara, Consultant Coordinator Anoma Premathilake and officials from SriLankan Airlines.
The aircraft has been liveried with the Sri Lanka Expo 2027 brand identity and will operate across several key international destinations served by SriLankan Airlines. The promotional campaign is intended to take the Expo’s message directly to international travellers, business communities and potential investors across the airline’s regional network.
SriLankan Airlines’ destinations covered by the campaign include India, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the Maldives, Malaysia, Kuwait and Thailand. These markets provide important links to regional business and investment networks, making the branded aircraft a mobile platform for promoting Sri Lanka’s trade and investment opportunities.
The Expo is being organised by the Sri Lanka Export Development Board under the guidance of the Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development. It will take place from January 14 to 17, 2027, at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo.
The event is positioned as a major international platform for Sri Lanka’s exporters and businesses to engage with overseas buyers, investors and other commercial stakeholders. Organisers expect more than 750 exhibitors to participate, while more than 1,500 international buyers and investors are expected to attend.
The scale of participation is intended to create opportunities for businesses across multiple sectors to establish new commercial relationships and explore international markets. For Sri Lankan exporters, direct access to buyers and investors can support the development of new partnerships, distribution arrangements and investment opportunities.
The exhibition will also include a series of parallel events designed to complement the main showcase. These will include a dedicated Investment Forum, industry-specific sessions and structured business-to-business matchmaking meetings.
The B2B sessions are expected to provide a more focused environment for companies and international buyers to discuss specific commercial opportunities. Such meetings can be particularly relevant for businesses seeking export orders, strategic partnerships, investment or access to new distribution networks.
The broader programme will also include fashion shows, culinary presentations and cultural performances. These activities are intended to showcase Sri Lanka’s cultural and economic diversity alongside its commercial capabilities, providing international visitors with a wider view of the country.
The international promotion of Sri Lanka Expo 2027 through SriLankan Airlines adds an aviation and tourism dimension to the export promotion campaign. By carrying the Expo branding across multiple international routes, the partnership seeks to increase visibility among potential participants before the event opens.
SriLankan Airlines will also support the initiative by offering discounted airfares to foreign buyers and investors travelling to attend the Expo. The discounts will be available at up to 20% for economy-class fares and up to 10% for business-class fares, according to the organisers.
The airfare initiative is intended to reduce travel costs for overseas participants and encourage greater international attendance. Higher participation from foreign buyers and investors could provide Sri Lankan companies with more opportunities to present products, services and investment proposals directly to international markets.
The event is expected to cover a broad spectrum of the Sri Lanka exports sector, ranging from agricultural products and industrial manufacturing to export services, innovation and tourism. This broad approach reflects the increasing importance of diversifying the country’s export base and expanding the range of products and services reaching international markets.
For investors, the event will also provide an opportunity to assess projects and companies across different sectors. The dedicated Investment Forum is expected to complement the exhibition by creating a platform for discussions around investment opportunities and Sri Lanka’s broader business environment.
The initiative comes as Sri Lanka continues efforts to strengthen international trade relationships and attract new investment. Building stronger connections between local businesses and international buyers can help exporters expand their customer base, while greater investor engagement can support capital formation and business development.
The EDB-SriLankan Airlines partnership therefore extends beyond conventional event advertising. The branded aircraft provides an international promotional platform, while the Expo itself is structured around commercial engagement, investment discussions and direct business matchmaking.
With Sri Lanka Expo 2027 scheduled for January 2027, attention will increasingly turn to exhibitor participation, international buyer engagement and the commercial opportunities that emerge from the event. The organisers aim to use the four-day exhibition to present Sri Lanka as a destination for trade, investment and business partnerships within the South Asian region.
