Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha announced that 1,250 main schools in Sri Lanka will be developed as ‘Smart Schools’ in the coming months, managed through a unified network under the Education Ministry. This initiative is supported by a $20 million grant from the Chinese government.
The announcement was made during the inauguration of new smart classrooms for grades 1 to 5 at Sirimavo Bandaranaike School in Colombo. The minister highlighted that the pilot programme for the new education system, aimed at grades 1, 6, and 10, is in its final stages, with the necessary learning modules completed.
